Surfboards by Peter Poppler

Peter Poppler has been making custom surfboards on the north shore of Kauai since 1981. He hand shapes each board to the specifications of each customer. Peter also glasses his own Poly boards. Epoxy surfboards and SUP boards are also hand shaped. These are pictures of his custom boards and their riders.
If you are interested in ordering a surfboard please use the contact form on the home page. We are able to ship by Fedex surfboards up to 9 feet in length.

Here is Peter's niece Sophia with her rad channel bottom quad with foam fins! Peter reshaped my old four fin into a new thinner version, a beautiful board with some very nice history. The NOW of this board and Sophia riding it is that she just WON the Hawaii state championships at Ala moana bowls, short board division! May 8, 2011 Congratulations
Sophia!

Balsa

Here is a balsa fin Peter just made (8/1/11) for Gary's SUP board.

10/13/11 This is a custom Balsa Fin for a box. Peter was given the fin template the customer wanted. These fins would be easier to ship than a surfboard. Please use the contact form on the home page for inquiries.

7' mini tanker

Picture
This board has been shaped and reshaped three times! This time with with four balsa fins! Peter takes the old board and strips off the glass and reshapes it thus recycling an old surfboard to become new again. This particular board has been the "rainbow rider" and is on it's third life, a little smaller and thinner each time! Now it is just right for me! I painted it as "Kundalini Rising" or since it is Peter's number 888 board he has made it can also be rainbow rider 888.

Here is Randal's second bonzer board.

Four fin fish

Picture
This is a custom made four fin with hand shaped foam core fins, one of  Peter's specialties. The Painting is done by Lupita Poppler. It is 5'5" long, the dimensions are 12" nose, 20" wide, 15" tail, and 2 1/4" thick. This board is riding in the kauai surf with Judd.

Bruce wanted to go in a new direction, so Peter made a 9'2" four fin gun. The dimensions are 14"nose, 23 5/8" wide point, 15 1/4" tail and 3 3/4" thick, with a single to double concave bottom. Bruce had been riding a 10' long board epoxy, but now loves his new poly board, turning and maneuvering as if on a short board.

Rounded square tail thruster long board

Jim had been stand up paddling for a while but wanted to get back into surfing again. He had the grand revelation that he could buy two surfboards for less than one SUP board. Now he is happily surfing and turning more on his very maneuverable 8'8" thruster long board.

Peter's single fin

Peter made himself a smaller thicker version of first single fin, (that I have been riding, now we are twins;)
It is 6'2" long, 22 1/2" wide, nose 15", tail 16", double wing rounded square tail, with 8 channels and a custom hand made foam core single fin. UPDATE Peter has since added two balsa bonzer fins to this board and the one below with a green fin, that one is on the surfboard sale tab.

Retro channel bottom single fin

Picture
Peter decided to try going retro with a single fin, with the modern twist of foam core single fin accompanied by eight channels, and double wings. This is a new version of his 1978 channel double wing pin tail that he and Bruce Jones designed together. This is 6'6" long, 14" nose, 22" wide,15" tail and
2 3/4" thick. P.S. Lupita adopted this board and rode it all winter 2011.

2013 series of mini tankies

Picture
This four fin was an order from Bernie, who saw our website and contacted us through e-mail then talked to Peter on the phone. He lives on Oahu, and has already ordered a second board. Peter is working on it now. OCT 2013

The board on the right is another bonzer for Randal.

David ordered this board from this website after contacting us and talking to Peter on the phone. He came to Kauai on vacation from Texas, ordered his board so it was done when he came to Kauai. Peter and David surfed one of our better big wave days in October of 2013, riding 6-10 foot waves at our favorite surf spot. Hurray!
Picture
Since David travels a lot he ordered FCS fins on his surfboard.

Matt

He just got this board 2/2012 and told us that it made him feel 20 years younger!
